Brassavola digbyana ‘Belize #2’ x Brassavola digbyana ‘Crestwood Emerald’

    SKU:9676/25

    Brassavola digbyana

An ever popular species that needs no introduction. Beautiful, waxy green blooms with a deeply fringed lip and a heavenly fragrance. Needs to be grown in bright light and warm temperatures year round.  Plants can be slow to grow, but once they reach flowering size are worth the wait. Should only be grown in media or containers with excellent drainage otherwise plants will easily lose roots from over watering.

We have healthy plants growing in 2.5" pots.

  3. Dendrobium finisterrae *Unusual Species*

    Dendrobium finisterrae *Unusual Species*

    SKU:10566/25

    Dendrobium finisterrae

Where do you go to find such an unusual looking orchid?  Why to the ends of the earth of course!  This prickly looking species is native to the Finisterre Mountain range in Papua, New Guinea.  The Latin root for the name of these mountains literally means End of the Earth.  Thankfully we don't have to travel that far anymore to add one to our collections.  Lush dark, green foliage rests on tapered pseudobulbs.  Bloom stems appear from the top of the growth in late spring and emerge to hold several green and white blooms.  The backs of the flowers are covered in prickly hairs, while the cupped lip shows dark maroon-red veins and spots.   Plants may lose some leaves during seasonal changes but should not lose all foliage unless plant is under extreme stress.  Even then, if leaves drop simply water carefully until new growth appears.

Growing Suggestions:  We suggest this as an intermediate grower.  In nature plants are found at high elevations where light is bright but temperatures are mostly cool year round.  Leaves can burn under high temperature or too bright light.  Maintain at least some water and humidity year round (no dry spell) but more is needed during the warm growing months.

We have a limited quantity of these plants happily growing in 2.5" pots.  Plants are expected to be flowering size in approximately two years.

  4. Dendrobium trantuanii *Rare Miniature*

    Dendrobium trantuanii *Rare Miniature*

    SKU:10567/25

    Dendrobium trantuanii

This showstopping miniature is back on the scene!  Originally from Vietnam, this species is best known for its generous flower size on diminutive plants.  Short (approximately 6" tall), flattened pseudobulbs carry pairs of silvery-pale green leaves through most of the year.  Plants are at least partly deciduous, dropping leaves when they experience changes in growing conditions or climate.  (If leaves turn yellow and drop when moving the plant from one location to another this doesn't mean it is lost.)  The white and pink blushed blooms have a plastic-like appearance with a shiny texture. Slightly sweet but musty fragrance that is not overpowering.

Growing Suggestions:  Since this species has not been as widespread in cultivation up until now, some growers are still discovering the best way to cultivate plants.  They seem to appreciate pots with a loose-well draining media that still holds humidity for the delicate roots.  Can be grown on mounts but frequent watering will be needed to keep the plant hydrated.  Bright, indirect light is best for mature plants.  Younger seedlings can be acclimated from medium to bright light over time, to encourage stronger growths and better flowering.

We have a small batch of these plants happily growing in 2.5" pots.  Plants are flowering size, and some have even bloomed in the past.  New flowers are expected in the next 6-12 months, in season.

  5. Dyakia hendersoniana *Miniature*

    Dyakia hendersoniana *Miniature*

    SKU:10422/25

We can't say enough good things about this adorable miniature with the flamingo pink blooms! Once considered an Ascocentrum, this Vanda alliance species is relatively easy to care for if you remember a few things. Great for growing indoors, and under artificial lights where space is an issue.  Did we mention this species is very miniature?

Low to medium light, similar to Phalaenopsis conditions are best.  Very bright light can cause dehydrated and stressed foliage.  Even plants grown in pots have unruly aerial roots which means high humidity is a plus, in addition to regular watering. Plants can be grown in pots with bark or sphagnum moss Always provide good air movement (like all orchids) so humidity will not cause bacterial spotting of the leaves.

We are offering a crop of Flowering Size plants in 2.5" pots.  These are expected to bloom for the first time in the coming 6-12 months.

  9. Phalaenopsis equestris x sibling

    Phalaenopsis equestris x sibling

    SKU:10350/25

    Phalaenopsis equestris

This offering is the result of line-breeding from the famous awarded 'Riverbend' cultivar.  Miniature growing plants will have sprays of dark lavender and white blooms.  The bloom stems continue to produce buds at the end for months after initial flowering is over.  Another plus is the fact that this species is known for producing keikis easily.

These should be grown in intermediate to warm conditions year round and low light (1200-1500 foot candles) for best results.  They tend to make a lot of air roots vs. roots insode their pots which makes them ideal for mounts or small baskets.

We have a limited amount of seedlings ready for the first time.  We expect more to be ready at a later date.

Plants are currently growing in 2.5" pots and are near flowering size.  This means they are expected to bloom spikes in about 12-18 months.   Please Limit to One per Customer.

Pricing on this item is Net and no further discounts will apply.

    Rhyncostylis coelestis 'Blue' *Rare Species*

    SKU:10400/25

    Rhyncostylis coelestis

(Photo shown courtesy of Lourens Grobler)

This Asian species is prized for its stems of gorgeous blue, lavender or hyacinth colored blooms with a delightful, sweet perfume. Upright stems emerge from the base of vandaceous foliage.  Blooming season in most places is late spring and early summer, but in warm climates, multiple inflorescences can show from March through August.

Growing Suggestions: Best suited from intermediate to warm conditions like most members of the Vanda alliance.  Plants will reach approximately 12 inches across when mature, and have multiple growths or 'fans' per plant.  These should be grown in hanging baskets for best results, as they will have long aerial roots.  If grown in pots, always use a well-draining open media. High humidity with frequent mistings are needed, and plants should be fertilized every third or fourth watering year round.

We have Limited Quantities of these hard-to-find plants in 2.5" pots.  Plants are expected to be flowering size in approximately 2 years.
