  1. Ascofinetia Cherry Blossom

    Ascofinetia Cherry Blossom

    SKU:10564/25

    Ascofinetia Cherry Blossom

(Neofinetia falcata ‘Chutenno’ x Asctm. ampullaceum [China Orange])

A new remake of a classic miniature favorite.  The original cross yielded all soft pink and mauve blooms but this grex is also expected to add some orange coloring to the flowers giving a splash of pizzazz!  Great for small growing spaces as these will stay compact. Over time plants will produce multiple crowns for super showy specimens.

Growing Suggestions: Best suited from intermediate to warm conditions like most members of the Vanda alliance.  Plants will reach approximately 10-12 inches across when mature, and have multiple growths or 'fans' per plant.  These should be grown in hanging baskets for best results, as they will have long aerial roots.  If grown in pots, always use a well-draining open media. High humidity with frequent mistings are needed, and plants should be fertilized every third or fourth watering year round.

We have a small batch of these plants happily growing in 2.5" pots.  Plants are expected to be flowering size in approximately 1-2 years.

These beautiful plants were provided by our friends at a wholesale orchid nursery in Hawaii. Because we did not raise them in our greenhouses, we can not guarantee them to be virus free as we would our own lab grown material. Otherwise, we guarantee your satisfaction and safe delivery as with other plant purchases.

  2. Encyclia granitica “Mendenhall’ x self

    Encyclia granitica “Mendenhall’ x self

    SKU:10181/25

    Encyclia granitica “Mendenhall’ x self

This unusual and hard to find species is native to upper regions of South America and is found growing in granite based or rocky outcroppings. Plants have long slender pseudobulbs when mature with narrow foliage emerging from the top of each growth.  Bloom stems are tall and branched holding dozens of small green and white blooms freckled with olive or tan markings. This is an extremely fragrant summertime showstopper!

Lithophytes, or 'rock growing' orchids like this must be grown in very well draining media to prevent root rot. We are growing ours in mesh baskets with loose bark for the roots to cling to.  Encyclia granitica is warm to hot growing meaning it is perfect for southern climates and plants will not easily tolerate cooler winter conditions. We water these daily in the spring to late summer and less often during the fall and winter.  Watch foliage for spotting when kept cool or wet under closed conditions.  Extra airflow is very helpful.  Plants should be grown in bright, indirect light. When mature, extremely bright diffused light will promote the best flowerings.

We are offering our small group of plants, a very limited number of near blooming size seedlings in 2" mesh baskets.

  3. Epidendrum nocturnum

    Epidendrum nocturnum

    SKU:10311/30

We acquired our compact growing strain from Eucagenera, many years ago. These have been fast growers and easy bloomers. Plants grow in clumps with pale cream and tan blooms that are only fragrant in the evening and overnight hours. Great for warm climates and does well with mount or basket culture.

We have Blooming Size plants in 3” mesh baskets that are large enough to bud and flower at any time.  As they mature, plants become free-flowering year round.

  4. Laelia rubescens (alba x aurea) x sib *New Rare Species*

Laelia rubescens (alba x aurea) x sib *New Rare Species*

    SKU:9982/25

Laelia rubescens (alba x aurea) x sib

This hard to find species is native to Mexico and down through Central America, usually in areas with warm, bright conditions. Plants have rounded, short and rather flat pseudobulbs with thick rounded foliage.  Each fall after the summer growing period is over, tall bloom stems emerge to bloom usually by November.  This form was made using both white and yellow parents.  The results being flowers are a creamy off-white with black “eyes” in the center  Mature plants can hold multiple stems each season, with dozens of flowers making quite an impressive sight.

Growing Suggestions:  Recommended for warm growing conditions, meaning 65 degrees or warmer year round.  Plants can tolerate short periods of cooler weather if kept dry. As plants mature, brighter light will be needed than seedlings currently receive but be cautious of causing leaf blushing or burn as plants won't recover easily. We usually hang larger plants high in the greenhouse above other crops and they flower well. Well draining media is a must to avoid rot.  These are easily grown in hanging baskets or on mounts.  We also have found that a bit of a dry winter rest is appreciated in cooler climates.  Water just enough to keep roots and bulbs from shriveling.

We are offering these beauties in 2" mesh pots.  After they outgrow these containers in the next year or two they can be slid right into larger baskets with little fuss.  Plants are expected to be flowering size in approximately two years.
