  2. Trichocentrum stramineum

    Trichocentrum stramineum

    SKU:9865/25

    Trichocentrum stramineum

This rarely seen miniature species is considered one of the 'mule-eared' Oncidiums for its thick, fleshy foliage.  Short bunches of flat, pointed leaves emerge from the crown of the plant. Sprays of tiny cream colored blooms emerge in springtime, making for a lovely show.

Growing Suggestions:  We have found this species will flower best in medium to bright light, which can produce red blushing on the foliage.  Plants grown in more shade will have greener foliage but less blooms or will skip a season.  Cooler summer temperatures combined with medium to bright light would be best.  Grow in well draining media, as plants like to be watered frequently but hate soggy roots.  Good airflow is a must.

Plants being offered are well established in 2.5" pots.  These are large enough to possibly flower in spring of 2019.

  3. Trichopilea suavis

    Trichopilea suavis

    SKU:10030/25

    Trichopilea suavis

The species name refers to the ‘sweet smelling’ floral fragrance.  Clusters of pink and white flowers emerge in the late spring and carry the scent of fresh cut roses. Heavenly!  In the Oncidium family, grow this one in cool to intermediate conditions and keep the media damp at all times.

We suggest this for temperatures from 55-75 degrees and high humidity.  Warmer temperatures can cause stressed foliage and poor blooming.  Grow in a water-retentive media that also drains well. Good airflow is a must to prevent unsightly leaf spotting. (A note regarding this species: the pseudobulbs are covered in a brown papery husk that can sometimes be considered unsightly.  This does not mean the plant is sick or anything is wrong.)

Plants for sale are growing well in 2.5" pots and are expected to flower well this coming spring. Repotting should be done after flowering season.
