  4. Cattleya chocoensis ‘Elly’ AM/AOS

    Cattleya chocoensis ‘Elly’ AM/AOS

    SKU:8673M/25

Cattleya chocoensis ‘Elly’ AM/AOS (syn. quadricolor and candida)

Awarded in 1979, in Colombia.  Prized for its pristine white petals with contrasting yellow and lavender throat coloring.  Blooms on this species are very round but stay slightly cupped.  Narrow, upright growth habit that makes multiple leads freely.  Grow only in well draining media and snug sized pots.  This species needs standard cattleya conditions with very bright indirect light and a day/night temperature change.  Less water in the winter months is appreciated.

Plants offered are the last available from a Limited Edition batch.  (Older leaves show some yellowing from previous repotting in warm weather, we have found this normal of the species). Plants are doing well in 2.5" pots, and expected to reach flowering size in 2-3 years.

  5. Cattleya harrisoniae 'Homestead' x Cattleya harrisoniae *New*

Cattleya harrisoniae 'Homestead' x Cattleya harrisoniae *New*

    SKU:10198/30

Cattleya harrisoniae 'Homestead' x Cattleya harrisoniae

This stunning species originates in Southeastern Brazil and is a lover of warm, bright conditions.  Tall, upright stems of bold heliotrope colored blooms in the middle of summer. Cattleya loddigesii and harrisoniana often have cases of mistaken identity, but this new grex is true and will flower similar to the photo shown.

Best suited for shadehouses, lathehouses, greenhouses and other well-lit growing environments.  As this species prefers a bit of a dry spell over the winter months, this should be grown in a very well draining media that can dry out, or in hanging baskets with coarse media for the roots to cling to.  If grown too damp in the off-season roots will decline rapidly.

We are offering well established plants in 3” mesh baskets, that are already showing growth for this spring.  Plants are expected to reach flowering size in 2-3 years or less, in some conditions.

  6. Cattleya schilleriana

    Cattleya schilleriana

    SKU:9480/25

    Cattleya schilleriana

This one has to be smelled to be believed. Gorgeous and vibrantly colored blooms carry a mouth-watering candy like fragrance. The compact, bifoliate growth habit is perfect for basket or mount culture. Blooms mostly appear in the summer, but mature plants can be free flowering.

Growing Suggestions: We have found this species does not like to be repotted often. We have started these plants in a bark media in small clay pots to encourage rapid drainage around the root systems and keep the mix fresh.  We do not recommend repotting or disturbing the seedlings for at least one year. This species does grow well in well-draining pots, hanging baskets or on mounts/slabs with proper watering.

    Cymbidium Jill 'Betty Jo' AM/AOS

    SKU:9717M/35

This is a great favorite even after many years in our collection. A compact, quick grower that makes arching sprays of clear, green blooms with white and rose marked lips. Mature plants easily produce multiple stems each season. Warmth tolerant but still needs a slight temperature drop to induce flowers.

    SKU:9814/30

[sib cross of ("Phelps farm" x "Mendenhall")].

Photo of Dendrobium anceps shown courtesy of Lourens Grobler.

It has been a long time since we have been able to offer this rare and unusual species. Foliage appears to have a braided look with miniature yellow blooms appearing in the spring. Can tolerate a range of conditions but does best if shaded during the hottest months. Do not allow to stay dry for long.
