Easy Growing Selections

Plants listed here are very easy to grow and flower.  Some will require bright light more like a greenhouse, and others will do well on just a sunny windowsill.  Regardless of their requirements, you will find them all vigorous growers and very rewarding.  We suggest reading through the list and finding the next perfect addition to your collection.

  1. Cattleya schilleriana

    Cattleya schilleriana

    SKU:9480/25

    Cattleya schilleriana

This one has to be smelled to be believed. Gorgeous and vibrantly colored blooms carry a mouth-watering candy like fragrance. The compact, bifoliate growth habit is perfect for basket or mount culture. Blooms mostly appear in the summer, but mature plants can be free flowering.

Growing Suggestions: We have found this species does not like to be repotted often. We have started these plants in a bark media in small clay pots to encourage rapid drainage around the root systems and keep the mix fresh.  We do not recommend repotting or disturbing the seedlings for at least one year. This species does grow well in well-draining pots, hanging baskets or on mounts/slabs with proper watering.

  2. Cymbidium dayanum album

Cymbidium dayanum album 'Lady Elizabeth' CHM/AOS x self

    SKU:9233/35

We have found that the seedlings of this award winning parent are fast growers and thrive in lower light levels than most Cymbidiums, though brighter conditions will increase bud count.

Pendant stems of cream and faintly green flowers. As plants mature, multiple bloom stems are expected each year giving this excellent specimen potential.  Thin, grassy foliage that likes lots of airflow to prevent spotting.

  8. Miltonia spectabilis var. moreliana

    Miltonia spectabilis var. moreliana

    SKU:MiltSpec/50

This show-stopping species carries huge plum and lavender blooms on fast growing plants. Very warmth tolerant and adapts easily to a variety of growing conditions. Great for growing outdoors in summer months.  Otherwise we recommended Standard Cattleya conditions year round, which means bright, indirect light and temperatures ranging from 65-85 degrees.  Plants will outgrow their containers quickly as they produce multiple leads each year. Each growth produces one bloom stem with a large plum and lavender bloom.

Last year we divided some of our collection plants.  The plants offered are from that group, which means they are all flowering size and have bloomed well in the past. Plants are currently in 5" pots, established in a spahgnum moss media.  New spring growth is evident and even some early signs of bloom spikes.  Flowers are expected sometime in July to August.
