Cattleyas- Standards

Standard Cattleyas are those varieties that are a minimum of 15"-18" tall when mature and will have large blooms of four inches across or larger.  Most are extremely fragrant, plus they are very showy. Cattleyas can have blooms varying from soft and dreamy to bold and brilliant.  Our selections represent some of the best breeding world wide!  Plants in this category are best grown in very bright, indrect light like a greenhouse, or outdoor growing space.  (We do not recommend these for windowsill growing or under artificial lights)

A very clean, upright grower that you can expect to produce flowers in mid to late fall each year. Extremely fragrant.

  8. Cattleya amethystoglossa 'El Camino' AM/AOS x 'Hutch' AM/AOS

Cattleya amethystoglossa 'El Camino' AM/AOS x 'Hutch' AM/AOS

    SKU:10167/30

This unusual and extremely showy species hails from select regions of Brazil. Plants are normally found in very brightly lit situations, where air flow is plentiful and humidity is high. Tall growing pseudobulbs can reach three feet tall on mature specimen plants.  Large clusters of waxy pink blooms heavily freckled with lavender purple spots. Plants are expected to be flowering size in 2 to 3 years.

We are offering seedlings growing in 3" mesh baskets and chunky tree fern media.  We have found that this species does not take well to over watering, especially during the winter months and should never be put into overly large containers.  Our suggestion for these seedlings is to mist heavily 3 to 4 times per week during the winter, and daily during the warmer summer months. Roots should be allowed to dry in a short period of time.  Bifoliate Cattleyas should never be repotted unless in active growth with new roots showing. (Though we feel these plants will not need to be disturbed for at least two years.)

  10. Laelia lobata concolor 'Jeni'

Laelia lobata 'Jeni' AM/AOS x Cattleya chocoensis 'Newberry Perfume'

    SKU:10191/25

Surprisingly, this primary cross has not previously been registered and we can't wait to see the results.  We have used a rare, pale pink form of Laelia lobata that can carry up to six blooms per stem on husky growing plants.  Cattleya chocoensis (quadricolor) is a hard to find species that naturally has slightly cupped blooms with a heady and sweet rose scented perfume. Our select variety has delicate coloring and is more fragrant than most we have found.  We are expecting seedlings with multiple pale pink or cream blooms.  Foliage is long and slender, and shows a scattering of darker purple freckles.  These will prefer bright, warm growing conditions and be standard sized growers when mature. Blooming season will vary as one parent is a summer and the other blooms in wintertime. First flowers are expected in 2-3 years, depending on conditions.
