Cattleyas

Cattleyas, the royalty of the orchid family, are native to the slopes of the Andes in South America. On the mountain slopes they have moderate days and cool nights, so they appreciate a temperature drop in the evening. They are comfortable at temperatures as low as 55 degrees at night, with days in the 70's or higher. They need bright light (not full sun) to flower. They must have good drainage, and like to dry a bit between waterings. Fertilize lightly when they are in active growth. Repot in a well draining mix, like our Cypress blends, when they have outgrown the pot or the mix has broken down (every two or three years).

Please refer to individual items for time expected until first blooming. Many of our offerings are young plants that will need to be grown to flowering size.  Unless otherwise stated in the description, items listed are not sent in spike, bud or bloom.

    A new cross made with high expectations of cream, pink and ivory colored blooms. Some yellows possible.  All should be very fragrant and very vigorous.  Both parents are dependable late summer to fall bloomers.

    Our growers have rounded up a number of different Cattleyas (seedlings, clones and species) for our Mystery Bag Specials.  For the special price shown below we will send Five (5) assorted plants in 2.5 to 3" pots. Most are ready for repotting this spring.  All are labeled plants (that part is not a mystery) and many will be fragrant.  We have a mix of colors, seasons and types.

    Growing Suggestions:  Plants will be a minimum of 15" to 18" tall at maturity.  Standard cattleya conditions are best, which means bright, indirect light and temperatures from 55° to 85° are suitable. Water on a wet/dry cycle and feed with a balanced fertilizer like Urea Free 20-10-20 or Orchid-Pro 7-8-6.

    An exact remake of a a previous customer favorite.  Everytime this is available is sells out so don't delay in getting yours today!  These will be a range of deep reds, bold oranges and exciting art-shades.  Very fragrant.  Foliage is upright and rather pointed.  

     

    Plants are established in 2.5" pots and expected to be flowering size in 2-3 years.  We thought it would be spring of 2020 before these were ready but they surprised us!  We finally have a good supply of these, and they are on a first come basis.
