Cattleyas

Cattleyas, the royalty of the orchid family, are native to the slopes of the Andes in South America. On the mountain slopes they have moderate days and cool nights, so they appreciate a temperature drop in the evening. They are comfortable at temperatures as low as 55 degrees at night, with days in the 70's or higher. They need bright light (not full sun) to flower. They must have good drainage, and like to dry a bit between waterings. Fertilize lightly when they are in active growth. Repot in a well draining mix, like our Cypress blends, when they have outgrown the pot or the mix has broken down (every two or three years).

Please refer to individual items for time expected until first blooming. Many of our offerings are young plants that will need to be grown to flowering size.  Unless otherwise stated in the description, items listed are not sent in spike, bud or bloom.

(Marsha T. Tsuruda x Volcano Glory ‘Enormous’)

Another amazing cross from hybridizer Matthias Seelis.  Though newer than some on the orchid scene, he has already received the 2016 MERRITT HUNTINGTON AWARD and continues to produce new and unusual hybrids.  We have been very pleased to discover a source for his amazing work, and are able to share with our customers (plus we have added a few goodies to our own collection.)

This new cross uses Volcano Glory which is a stunning semi-alba showing bold purple petal flaring.  The markings ALWAYS pass through somehow to the next generation yielding some very unique results.  Blc. Starstruck will be gorgeous dark and rosy lavenders with bright petal splashes and matching lip coloring.  Wonderfully fragrant.

We are offering a limited quantity of 5" pots, most of which are flowering size and expected to bloom within 12 months.

These beautiful plants were provided by our friends at a wholesale orchid nursery in Hawaii. The parents were virus free at the time of hybridizing but because we did not raise them in our greenhouses, we can not guarantee them to be virus free as we would our own lab grown material. Otherwise, we guarantee your satisfaction and safe delivery as with other plant purchases.
