  1. Brassavola digbyana 'Crestwood Emerald'

Brassavola digbyana ‘Belize #2’ x Brassavola digbyana ‘Crestwood Emerald’

    SKU:9676/25

    Brassavola digbyana

An ever popular species that needs no introduction. Beautiful, waxy green blooms with a deeply fringed lip and a heavenly fragrance. Needs to be grown in bright light and warm temperatures year round.  Plants can be slow to grow, but once they reach flowering size are worth the wait. Should only be grown in media or containers with excellent drainage otherwise plants will easily lose roots from over watering.

We have healthy plants growing in 2.5" pots.

    Cattleya Alliance Starter Collection

    (Photos shown are examples only)

Cattleyas and their relations are considered to be royalty among orchids.  Nothing seems quite as showy or classic, as a well grown Cattleya in full glory.  What we love most about this part of the orchid family, is the range of colors, shapes, sizes and even fragrances that are available for the discerning collector. Most growers start their orchid journey with a Phalaenopsis and perhaps even a Ladyslipper or Dancing Lady orchid. These make great beginner plants to try and they do well in most home growing environments.  But what happens when your conditions change or you are ready to try something new and different?

That is where the idea for our latest collection came from.  Included will be Five different Cattleya plants from within the Cattleya alliance.  (Meaning Cattleya, Laelia, Brassavola, and intergenerics of these kinds).  Our growers will include a different plant for each of the criteria listed below.  Growing requirements may vary depending on what received, giving you the grower a chance to experience a wide range of selections.  All plants included will be in 2.5"-3" pots.  Some will be ready for new containers this coming spring season. Some will be close to flowering size, and others will take a few years.

  3. Cattleya bicolor 'Mendenhall-Beta' 4N

    Cattleya bicolor 'Mendenhall-Beta' 4N

    SKU:7757M/30

A tall, slender growing Brazilian species that loves bright light and warm temperatures. Clusters of waxy green blooms with bright fuchsia lips appear above bifoliate foliage. These are mericlones from our presumed tetraploid 'Mendenhall-Beta'. Great coloring and incredible substance.  As with most 4N, they are bit slower growing but no less vigorous.

We are offering plants growing in 3" mesh baskets and chunky tree fern media.  We have found that this species does not take well to over watering, especially during the winter months.  Our suggestion for these seedlings is to mist heavily 3 to 4 times per week during the winter, and daily during the warmer summer months. First flowers are expected within two years.

  6. Cattleya harrisoniae 'Homestead' x Cattleya harrisoniae *New*

Cattleya harrisoniae 'Homestead' x Cattleya harrisoniae *New*

    SKU:10198/30

Cattleya harrisoniae 'Homestead' x Cattleya harrisoniae

This stunning species originates in Southeastern Brazil and is a lover of warm, bright conditions.  Tall, upright stems of bold heliotrope colored blooms in the middle of summer. Cattleya loddigesii and harrisoniana often have cases of mistaken identity, but this new grex is true and will flower similar to the photo shown.

Best suited for shadehouses, lathehouses, greenhouses and other well-lit growing environments.  As this species prefers a bit of a dry spell over the winter months, this should be grown in a very well draining media that can dry out, or in hanging baskets with coarse media for the roots to cling to.  If grown too damp in the off-season roots will decline rapidly.

We are offering well established plants in 3” mesh baskets, that are already showing growth for this spring.  Plants are expected to reach flowering size in 2-3 years or less, in some conditions.

Cattleya trianae 'A.C. Burrage' AM/AOS *Rare Species*

    Cattleya trianae 'A.C. Burrage' AM/AOS

This special cultivar was named after the first president of the American Orchid Society. Our plants are tissue cultured from the original plant granted an Award of Merit from the AOS in 1939 and from the RHS in 1948.  Blooms are a soft lavender-pink with purple and yellow coloring on the lip.  Excellent round form and good substance.  This item is not often available so get yours while you can!

  9. Cymbidium dayanum album

    Cymbidium dayanum album

    SKU:9233/35

Cymbidium dayanum album 'Lady Elizabeth' CHM/AOS x self

We have found that the seedlings of this award winning parent are fast growers and thrive in lower light levels than most Cymbidiums, though brighter conditions will increase bud count.

Pendant stems of cream and faintly green flowers. As plants mature, multiple bloom stems are expected each year giving this excellent specimen potential.  Thin, grassy foliage that likes lots of airflow to prevent spotting. Great for hanging pots or baskets.

Plants are flowering size and growing in 3.5" pots.  Many of these have previously flowered and should be even more fantastic next year!

Photo of Dendrobium anceps shown courtesy of Lourens Grobler.

It has been a long time since we have been able to offer this rare and unusual species. Foliage appears to have a braided look with miniature yellow blooms appearing in the spring. Can tolerate a range of conditions but does best if shaded during the hottest months. Do not allow to stay dry for long.
