  3. Laelia Coronet

    Laelia Coronet

    SKU:9635/25

    (cinnabarina x harpophylla)

We have remade this antique primary cross with select parents. Sprays of bright orange star-shaped blooms with lighter yellow and cream trumpet shaped lips. Very showy with a blooming season just right for winter shows! Very narrow, upright foliage that will blush if grown in bright light. We have found these do best in long-lasting but fast draining media so they are not disturbed too often. Can also be grown in a rock or gravel based media, and possibly on mounts.

Plants are currently growing in 2.5" clay pots in well draining mix.  First flowering can be expected as early as this winter.

  6. Laelia purpurata coerulea 'Sweet Twilight'

Laelia purpurata coerulea 'Sweet Twilight' x Laelia purpurata werkhauseri 'Blue Sky'

    SKU:10176/30

This Brazilian species is considered the 'Queen of the Laelias'. Once you enjoy the elegant show-stopping displays of spring time flowers you will agree!  This grex uses two different 'blue-lipped' forms to produce a new generation of seedlings that will have petals either pure white or slightly smokey gray. The trumpet shaped lips will have colors from slate to hyacinth combined with a heady floral fragrance.  Recommended for greenhouse or shade-house culture because they will need plenty of warm, bright light to mature.

We have plants available in 3" pots.

Laelia purpurata var. alba ‘June Bride’ AM/AOS x Laelia purpurata var. alba ‘Elias’ HCC/AOS

    SKU:9662/25

As seen on the cover of our Holiday 2016 catalog.

This pure white form is considered one of the rarest colors of this species. We used our two best and most floriferous parents in this new offering. Very Fragrant.

This species should be grown in very bright, indirect light and prefers 65-85 degrees year round if possible.  Plants can tolerate cooler temperatures if kept dry. Large growing, and needs plenty of space as they grow.

  8. Laelia rubescens (alba x aurea) x sib *New Rare Species*

Laelia rubescens (alba x aurea) x sib *New Rare Species*

    SKU:9982/25

Laelia rubescens (alba x aurea) x sib

This hard to find species is native to Mexico and down through Central America, usually in areas with warm, bright conditions. Plants have rounded, short and rather flat pseudobulbs with thick rounded foliage.  Each fall after the summer growing period is over, tall bloom stems emerge to bloom usually by November.  This form was made using both white and yellow parents.  The results being flowers are a creamy off-white with black “eyes” in the center  Mature plants can hold multiple stems each season, with dozens of flowers making quite an impressive sight.

Growing Suggestions:  Recommended for warm growing conditions, meaning 65 degrees or warmer year round.  Plants can tolerate short periods of cooler weather if kept dry. As plants mature, brighter light will be needed than seedlings currently receive but be cautious of causing leaf blushing or burn as plants won't recover easily. We usually hang larger plants high in the greenhouse above other crops and they flower well. Well draining media is a must to avoid rot.  These are easily grown in hanging baskets or on mounts.  We also have found that a bit of a dry winter rest is appreciated in cooler climates.  Water just enough to keep roots and bulbs from shriveling.

We are offering these beauties in 2" mesh pots.  After they outgrow these containers in the next year or two they can be slid right into larger baskets with little fuss.  Plants are expected to be flowering size in approximately two years.
