  4. Paphiopedilum sanderianum *Seedling A*

    Paphiopedilum sanderianum *Seedling A*

    SKU:PaphSand/AA

This species is native to Borneo, and is perhaps the most famous of the Paphiopedilum alliance.  Each richly colored bloom is graced with long, spiraling petals up to 30 or more inches long.  Our collection/breeding plants produce as many as four blooms per stem and flowering season tends to be in the summer and warmer months, though we do occasionally see out of season surprises.

The foliage is a glossy medium to dark green, depending on light and culture.  These are slow but steady growers that will need some patience to reach flowering but will be so worth it!  Do not allow the roots to become completely dry, instead maintaining some moisture at all times.  Intermediate light and temperatures are best, though brighter light can promote faster growth and larger, albeit paler foliage.  Plants easily flower on a single growth, once the leaves reach a mature 16"-18 spread.

We have found these do not like to be repotted often and make new roots only certain times per year. Instead we suggest using a fast draining media that breaks down slowly and snug fitting containers.  The current crop was repotted about two years ago and will be happy for some time without being disturbed.

This offering is for a happily growing plant in a 5" pot.  The plant is flowering size and large enough to produce buds.  The flower photo shows an example of what blooms will look like and the plant photo shows the exact plant you will receive.  A yardstick ruler is shown for size.

The cross is: 8016 Paph. sanderianum ‘Raven Cliff Falls’ AM/AOS x Paph. sanderianum ‘Nature’s Glory’
