  1. Angraecum didieri *Miniature*

    Angraecum didieri *Miniature*

    SKU:9120/25

A charming and easy to grow selection!  A perfect choice for beginner or amateur growers who want to try something new and different. These small growing plants will produce keikis and multiple growths freely which makes for a short, but bushy specimen in no time.  Plants carry dormant bloom stems for months at a time, which in turn become buds when the time is and conditions are right.  Usually flowers appear in late spring when days are getting longer and warmer, but growers have reported blooms in almost any season. Each stem holds a single, waxy white bloom with a short spur.

Growing Suggestions:  This species actually does well in home growing conditions if enough humidity and airflow can be provided.  Medium light or brighter (like most Phalaenopsis) is usually enough to produce flowers.  Temperatures ranging from 65-85 degrees will be preferred.  Plants should be kept in well-draining media, and watered just as plants become dry.  Do not allow plants to stay wet for long periods or sit in water.  In greenhouses, or shadehouse conditions, plants will grow well on mounts or in small baskets. Fertilize lightly year round, usually once per month, remembering lower light levels means less food is used by the plant.

We are offering Blooming Size plants in 2.5" pots, large enough to flower in the next 6-12 months.

    Angraecum magdalenae *Rare & Fragrant*

    SKU:10405/25

(Photo shown Courtesy of Lourens Grobler)

We were recently reminded of just how lovely this rare species of Madagascar is.  Pure white, waxy blooms grace plants with dark green foliage. Unlike a number of other Angracoids, these blooms will be fragrant with a spicy-sweet perfume during the day with the height of scent being reached in evening. And what a scent it is! Flowers can last for weeks in good culture.

The foliage on Angraecum magdalenae is very dark green, with an almost leathery texture, and rather compact even when mature.  Usually plants reach approximately 12" in height, plus they will send out basal keikis as they age.

Growing Suggestions:  We recommend these for advanced growers, or collectors experienced with plants needing specific growing requirments.  In nature, plants are generally found under extremely bright light, though slightly protected by the trees they grow on or under.  Young seedlings like these should be given bright, indirect light as much as is possible (avoiding sunburn) until they are bit bigger. As plants reach flowering size, more light can be tolerated and is needed to induce buds.  Intermediate to warm temperatures are preferred, with a sharp day to night difference.  Plants should be grown in long-lasting, well draining media or in baskets with some roots exposed. Repot only when needed and disturb them as little as possible. Angraecum magdalenae should be given a near dry spell over the winter when summer growths are complete.  Heavy mistings are enough, until spring returns when plants should receive frequent watering again.

We are currently offering seedlings of this species, established in 2" net pots. They should not be moved into new containers until next spring.  We expect these plants to reach flowering size is approximately 2-3 years.

  5. Dyakia hendersoniana

    Dyakia hendersoniana

    SKU:10422/25

(Bloom photo shown courtesy of Lourens Grobler)

We can't say enough good things about this adorable miniature with the flamingo pink blooms! Once considered an Ascocentrum, this Vanda alliance species is relatively easy to care for if you remember a few things. Great for growing indoors, and under artificial lights where space is an issue.

Low to medium light, similar to Phalaenopsis conditions are best.  Very bright light can cause dehydrated and stressed foliage.  Even plants grown in pots have unruly aerial roots which means high humidity is a plus, in addition to regular watering. Plants can be grown in pots with bark or sphagnum moss Always provide good air movement (like all orchids) so humidity will not cause bacterial spotting of the leaves.

We are offering a crop of Near Flowering Size plants in 2.5" pots.  These are expected to bloom for the first time in the coming 12-18 months.

  6. Holcoglossum wangii

    Holcoglossum wangii

    SKU:10035/25

This rare and unusual species hails from select regions of China and Vietnam where conditions of shady most of the year, with very high humidity. Plants have terete foliage, and are usually grown pedant, with leaves hanging downward as they mature.  Bloom stems emerge on slender inflorescence, and have white petal segments with darker reddish-purple spotting near the heart.  Flowers have an open 'windmill' shape, with each petal having a bit of a twist as the base.

Growing Suggestions: Perfectly suited for intermediate to warm temperatures, usually 65-85 degrees.  Since many people grow these in baskets or on mounts, high humidity is a must in addition to almost daily watering or mistings.  Medium to bright light, depending on how much airflow is available, will be best.  Fertilize year round, every third or fourth watering. Don't repot or re-mount too often as plants do not like to be disturbed once they are settled.

We have available Near Blooming Size plants in 2.5" pots.  First flowers are expected in the next 12-18 months, in season.

  7. Neofinetia falcata *Fragrant Species*

    Neofinetia falcata *Fragrant Species*

    SKU:10359/25

Originally known in Japan as Fukiran, which means orchid of the rich and noble, this species has been highly prized for centuries in its native country.  Dainty white blooms with a heavenly sweet fragrance grace these miniature plants from early summer and into the fall months.  An excellent choice for growing under lights or in sunny windowsills.

The vandaceous growth habit promotes multiple crowns and basal keikis which fill out small pots in little time.  We recommend medium to bright light with plentiful air flow to prevent burning the small leaves.  Plants have been proven to tolerate a wide variety of tempatures but 65-85 degrees seems to be best for strong growth year round.  Do not allow the media to become completely dry even in winter.

We are offering beautiful, multi-growth plants happily established in 2.5" pots.  These are already flowering size and can flower anytime over the next 6 to 12 months.

  8. Renanthera imschootiana

    Renanthera Memoria Robin Musolino

    SKU:10423/25

A great new selection for collectors of Vanda alliance hybrids and species.  This primary hybrid uses the large growing Renanthera imschootiana, known for its explosive displays of fiery red blooms, which is combined with the more compact Renanthera bella, whose flowers show distictinve spotting on the segments.

Both species prefer very bright, and warm growing conditions.  Light is especially important for mature plants to flower properly (or at all).  We suggest this for growers with greenhouses or year round outdoor growing spaces with lots of light and air movement.  Plants will need high humidity, and frequent watering though media should never be allowed to stay damp.

We have a Limited Supply of plants in 2.5" pots. We expect these to be flowering size in 2-3 years.

    Rhyncostylis coelestis 'Blue' *Rare Species*

    SKU:10400/25

This Asian species is prized for its stems of gorgeous blue, lavender or hyacinth colored blooms with a delightful, sweet perfume. Upright stems emerge from the base of vandaceous foliage.  Blooming season in most places is late spring and early summer, but in warm climates, multiple inflorescence can show from March through August.

Growing Suggestions: Best suited from intermediate to warm conditions like most members of the Vanda alliance.  Plants will reach approximately 12 inches across when mature, and have multiple growths or 'fans' per plant.  These should be grown in hanging baskets for best results, as they will have long aerial roots.  If grown in pots, always use a well-draining open media. High humidity with frequent mistings are needed, and plants should be fertilized every third or fourth watering year round.

We have Limited Quantities of these hard-to-find plants in 2.5" pots.  Plants are expected to be flowering size in approximately 2 years.
