Houseplants

The ferns, foliage and other houseplants listed here are proven varieties. Individual care suggestions are given regarding light, water, humidity etc... Hardy or Frost tolerant varieties are listed as such with a mention of the lowest temperature zone that we recommend them for.

*T* Tropical plants generally should be kept at 55 degrees or above but some varieties can tolerate short dips in the 40's without damage.

    This lightweight potting soil includes peat moss, vermiculite and perlite in appropriate ratios for African Violets.   Each bag contains enough to repot approximately six 4" pots. Can also be used for other tropical houseplants such as streptocarpus, begonias, lipstick plants, sinningias and more.

    Always use damp potting media when repotting to avoid dehydrating plants.  Most African Violets need repotting and/or fresh media every 6-9 months.

    Elephant Ear Staghorn Fern (Platycerium elephantotis)

    Staghorn ferns are best suited for growing outdoors in warm climates, sunrooms or greenhouses. In nature, these epiphytes grow in trees where leaf debris collects but drains freely. This species is native to east & central Africa and has large rounded fronds that reach two feet or more in length at maturity. Considered one of the smaller members of this genus. Very rare! 

    Care Suggestions: Allow media to dry between watering to avoid root rot. Fertilize lightly once per month. Bright indirect light is best. Generally prefers temperatures of 55° or above but mature plants can tolerate short dips in the 40’s without damage.
